Similar to Glory Road, Remember the Titans is another movie that shows racial discrimination in a sports team. It was released in 2000 and it was awarded is various awards and nominations. The movie takes place in Virginia, in 1971, when racism was still a huge issue. The main event occurs in a high school football team, which becomes desegregated. In order to unite the football team, the head coach starts a camp a week before the school starts. The team successfully unites despite the racial difference, when the team goes back to school, the world does not allow them to. The team faces many incidents associating with racial discrimination, and become separated. Despite the winning streak, the team does not feel united anymore, therefore, finds a need to get back together as they were during the camp. Somehow, the team truly unites back together and achieve greatness throughout the season.
By using dramatic stories, such as friendship and love, the movie successfully demotes racism. Even though our skin color might be different, in deep inside us, we are all the same. The team, not only change themselves, but also changes people around them as well, and that is what this movie tries to achieve as well. When watching this movie, people can realize that racism is a serious issue, but it can be alleviated. When people acknowledges the little differences between people of different races, things can get a lot better than it is now.
